A long overdue update.....

We have been silent on the website for too long, but that by no means implies that the Department has not been doing great things at all levels.

First, congratulations to our Chair, Matt Schmitz (2009) who was announced today that he was selected for promotion to Colonel. Well-deserved

Matt also has been highlighting the world-class multidisciplinary musculoskeletal care provided here at SAMMC. Alex Smith's amazing comeback was facilitated by the work of many here in the Department and the CFI. Matt spoke to media recently and the interview can be found here. Joe Alderete (Fac mbr) was interviewed by 60 Minutes recently on the contributions of our people. We will try to let everyone know when that airs.

Patrick Osborn (Fac mbr) was recently named one of 2020's "Healthcare Heroes" by the San Antonio Business Journal. He has been a leader in the city's response to the pandemic since March and, along with Matt, has ensured that SAMMC Ortho has been agile in the response the local conditions.

Jeannie Huh (2012) has returned home to the Department from Womack AMC. We are elated to have Jeannie back in the fold. She is already making an impact as the new Director of Ambulatory Surgery and will be instrumental in our efforts to continuously improve operations at Wilford Hall ASC.

Our home page has our selectees for the Class of 2026 and as we look forward to this new class, we are making plans to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2021 at Omer Day and graduation 24-25 June 2021.
